Los objetivos de una CSO son: Ser una voz para sus escuelas, Brindar oportunidades STEM a sus pares, Traer cambios a sus comunidades. 🧪🥼🐘 (EN): Adelina (Ellie) B., one of NASD’s Chief Science Officers, visited Marshall Street Elementary this morning to do an "Elephant Toothpaste STEMonstration'' for 4th grade students as part of her CSO Action Plan. She visited her own former 4th grade classroom for the demonstration. CSO Ellie also gifted the class with the book, “Khadija and the Elephant Toothpaste Experiment” written by Farah Qaiser and Jajer Makua. The book is about a Muslim girl who is inspired to be a scientist after watching an Elephant Toothpaste experiment. The experiment consisted of a special combination of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, food coloring, and activated dried yeast. It is called Elephant Toothpaste because the chemical reaction created a foam with a consistency similar to toothpaste, and only an elephant would use a toothpaste that large. A CSO's goals are: Be a voice for their schools, Bring STEM opportunities to their peers, Bring change to their communities. 🧪🥼🐘

This team is made of middle school students Jude, Navah, Sophia, Nash, Jess, and Marley. These students have been working since May when VEX Robotics Competition released the details for this year’s game: Over Under. The competition season runs from December to March. There are multiple parts to a robotics competition, including the actual event, the notebook explaining their entire process, and an interview with the judges. On February 3, this team made it to the quarter finals and won the Judges Award which is given to a team to recognize a special accomplishment. And on February 10, they won the Design Award which is awarded to a team that documents the design process the best as rated by the judges. The team is excited for the rest of the competition season.
